The video “Dangers of Smoking by JD Charisma” uses various techniques to create the argument that smoking is bad. The creator of the video, JD Charisma, uses humorous elements to capture the attention of viewers. For example, he uses clips of his grandma to get laughs out of the audience. The poor quality of the music and the ridiculousness of the name “JD Charisma” also add to the humor of the situation. By poking fun at himself and his music, JD Charisma provides comic relief to a to serious topic. Behind the bad rhymes and funny elements of the video lies a genuine argument. This argument, as the title suggests, is that smoking is bad for you and those around you. JD provides supporting evidence to this topic through various clips. First, he shows a clip of a funeral, implying that smoking is deadly. Next, he shows clips of both babies and his family, making the argument that smoking not only hurts yourself, but everyone around you. JD Charisma used several techniques that enhanced his argument. The first of these techniques was the use of zoom. By zooming in on smokers and the casket, he clarifies his argument by providing a focal point for the argument. To make the video less serious and provide comic relief, JD cuts to close ups of his grandma and scenes of his family nodding to the beat, suggesting that they are his “homies”. As mentioned earlier, JD cuts to several clips to provide humor and evidence to his argument. These various humorous elements and video techniques create an effective argument that viewers will not soon forget.

Give a Little, Get a Little

Both the United States and Japan have a profound cultural impact on each other. This exchange of cultures determines the future of “American” culture. The United States has impacted Japan’s culture in a variety of different ways. One of these ways is through hairstyles, especially involving blonde hair color. The idealized American image of the beautiful, thin, tan, blonde-haired woman is the goal of most women across the world. In Japan, women are dying their hair blonde or wearing blonde wigs in order to achieve this American look. The unreachably high standards that the United States and other Western nations set for the world provoke women to alter their appearances in order to look the way the Western world thinks they should. Not only does American culture impact Japan, but also Japanese culture has played a significant role in the United States. One example of this is the popular Japanese icon, Hello Kitty. Shortly after being introduced into the United States in 1976, Hello Kitty took American culture by storm. Soon, there was Hello Kitty dolls, Hello Kitty backpacks, and even a Hello Kitty TV show. Children all over the United States quickly became obsessed with the adorable kitten. The future of “American” culture will undoubtedly be filled with the influence of other cultures. This could be either good or bad, depending on how you look at it. On one hand, the influence of other cultures will help improve the diversity and variety of American culture. On the other hand, however, the idea of the true “American” culture could be lost forever. While the integration of other cultures into American culture should be encouraged, the classic American traditions should not be forgotten. In order to preserve American culture, the United States must defend its core values and traditions that it has thrived on. Also, in order to ensure the advancement of American culture, the United States must, to a certain extent, “conquer” the cultures of other nations. The United States will do this through the use of companies such as McDonalds and Disney.
Airport Security: Mission Impossible

The game Airport Security contains several elements that help create a persuasive argument. The argument that the game creates is the difficulty of the job of airport security workers. The point of the game is to inspect the passengers while keeping a watchful eye on the constantly changing prohibited items list at the top of the screen. You must look through not only the passenger’s belongings, but also inspect the clothes they are wearing. There is a time limit on the game, and if you run out of time, you lose. But if you let passengers through that are carrying prohibited items, you get a strike. Once you get three strikes, you lose. These various factors create a very high level of difficulty, taking the fun out of the game. The more I think about it, however, the more the game makes sense. This game is not fun or easy, which is an accurate representation of the job of an airport security worker. My score was 100, which is a very low score. I feel like with a little more concentration and practice, I could improve my score. However, the fact that the game is not fun doesn’t make me want to keep playing. After playing Airport Security, I felt frustrated and confused. I wondered how the game could be so difficult. Then, I thought about how airport security workers have to perform this job every day, with very high stakes. On one hand, the workers have to be very meticulous while inspecting the belongings of passengers. At the same time, however, they have to keep the line moving as fast as possible or else passengers will get angry. The strict time limits and the low margin for error makes the role of an airport security officer a very difficult task. This exact argument could be expressed through a newspaper article or a book, but it wouldn’t be as effective. By making the argument through a video game, the message can reach more people, especially the younger generation. By making the game tedious, difficult, and frustrating, an effective persuasive argument is created that makes more people appreciate the efforts of airport security workers and gives their profession more respect.
